follow latitude lines across globe to find plants, check regions/similar elevation & weather

weather plants:
scarlet pimpernel (analgalis arvensis) low-growing weed whose red blossoms only open in morning on a day that will stay sunny throught the afternoon because it reacts to atmospheric pressure (common name poor man's weather glass)
Morning glories also don't open on days that threaten to rain

Plants with trembling leaves, like ornamental grasses and bamboo alert one to high winds on a summer afternoon, or dry winds that suck moisture.
Rose Mallow (hibiscus Moscheutos) closes sumer flower by noon on days when the temp climbs to the point that lettuce start bolting and pea pods dry to wisps.

Mallow & grasses can remind you to water or re-water vegetable beds before plants get too parched.

stick a few delicate but expendable flowers (cheap impatiens) in low-lying areas that will receive first frost for fair wargning when more valuable plants need to be brought inside.

As a backdrop aspen or poplar trees show silvery undersides if planted in an open-wind spot sign storm is on it's way.
